In this talk, Kim Knowles will introduce Man Ray as a filmmaker, placing him within the context of the historical avant-garde, but also showing how his films have influenced generations of experimental filmmakers. 

Kim Knowles is lecturer in Film Studies at Aberystwyth University in Wales, UK. She has published widely on avant-garde film and photography, including a monograph entitled A Cinematic Artist: The Films of Man Ray (Peter Lang, 2009; 2012), as well as articles in French Studies, History of Photography, Studies in French Cinema, Millennium Film Journal, and Moving Image Review and Art Journal. She has been the curator of the experimental film section at the Edinburgh International Film Festival since 2008.
